At the age of two as per the request made by H.H. Drubwang Rinpoche to H.H. Jigdrel Yeshi Dorji (Dudjom Rinpoche) for the recognition of yangsi, H.H. Dudjom Rinpoche recognized him as the unmistaken reincarnation of the Mugsang Kuchen Chogtrul Kunzang Sherab Rinpoche and named him Jigme Kunzang Tenpai Nyima.

His Holiness Drubwang Rinpoche brought him to Namdroling Monastery and then enthroned him in a grand way. He learnt reading and writing from His Holiness Drubwang Rinpoche. Under the guidance of tutor Lama Sonam Tenzin, etc. he completely learnt the ritual arts of Palyul tradition.

Along with the Namche Ngondro, Tsalung and Dzongchen, His Holiness Drubwang Pema Norbu Rinpoche bestowed upon him all the empowerments, instructions and transmission of distinct Namchö Cycle, Kama and Terma. Rinpoche then studied Buddhist philosophy on the sutra and tantra at Ngagyur Nyingma Institute. Following the kind guidance and command of His Holiness, Rinpoche started traveling overseas bringing immense benefits to many.

Since His Holiness Drubwang Rinpoche attained into mahaparinirvana, he has been shouldering the general responsibilities of Namdroling Monastery as the chief and carrying forward the supreme legacy of His Holiness by benefiting everyone connected; thus, remaining as a guidance of the Buddha dharma and the sentient beings.
